Mankad Advances to Second Round of NCAA Singles Championships

CollJunior Harsh Mankad defeated Michael Kogan of Tulane, 6-1, 7-6 (2), in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships on Wednesday morning in College Station, Texas. Mankad, the third seed in the tournament, will face Oggie Kolev from Arkansas tomorrow.
Mankad is now the second-highest seed remaining in the field as Ryan Newport of Texas A&M upset second-seed Peter Handoyo from Tennessee, 6-1, 6-2. Top seed Matias Boeker of Georgia cruised into the second round with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Steve Berke from Yale. In all, four of the top-16 seeded players were ousted.
Mankad will also begin doubles play tomorrow with teammate Thomas Haug.
