Men's Tennis Finishes First Day of Tribe Classic

Junior Aleksey Zharinov led the way for Minnesota with a pair of singles victories and a doubles win. Ranked 51st in the nation, Zharinov defeated No. 85 Matthew Scott of Notre Dame in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1. He then defeated Jeffrey Kader of William & Mary, 6-3, 6-4. Zharinov teamed with Clay Estes, a transfer from Texas Tech, to defeat Nicholas Lopez and Paul MacNaughton of Notre Dame, 8-5.
In other singles action, Avery Ticer, Chris Wettengel, Eric Robertson and Estes all split their two matches, while Nate McLain was defeated twice. Robertson and Wettengel, as well as, McLain and Ticer lost their doubles match.
The tournament runs through Sunday.
