Men's Tennis Posts Strong Showing at Wisconsin Invitational

The Maroon and Gold won all of its singles matches against the Hawkeyes, going 6-0. Four of the matches went to a third pro-set tiebreaker. Avery Ticer downed Parker Ross, 6-0, 6-3, and Clay Estes defeated Sebastian Delgado, 6-2, 6-3, in the two straight-set matches.
Minnesota also swept Nebraska, going 5-0 in singles play. Ticer, Estes, Chris Wettengel, Brian Lipinski and Mikey Kantar picked up wins over their Husker opponents. Against Northern Illinois, the Golden Gophers went 4-1, with the Ticer falling to Willy Gali, 6-4, 6-7 (11-9), for UM's lone singles loss of the tournament.
Versus Marquette, Minnesota posted a 6-0 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark. In doubles, Ticer/Wettengel fell to Leenders/Verdrikes, 8-5, but Wilkins/Estes and Lipinski/Kantar picked up victories over the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Gophers are next in action at the ITA Regionals on Oct. 23-28.
