Zharinov Falls in First Round of NCAA Singles Championship

fIn a match interrupted by rain, San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger defeated Minnesota's Aleksey Zharinov, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship in Athens, Ga. Zharinov finished his junior season with a team-best 33-11 singles record for the Golden Gophers.
Maiberger is currently ranked 42nd in the nation, while Zharinov was rated 52nd. Maiberger will face No. 9 David Martin of Stanford tomorrow in the second round.
