MTN: Minnesota Advances to Quarterfinals at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

In singles play, top-seeded Avery Ticer continued his run in the tournament with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over Arizona State's Nick Hegarty. Ticer, 2-1 in the fall, will take on Dan Hanegby of Western Michigan tomorrow. No. 9 seed Nick Edlefsen pulled an upset in his round of 16 match, defeating No. 3 seed Jonathan Kinsella of Arizona State, 6-4, 7 -5. Edlefsen, 3-0 at the Milwaukee Classic, faces Chris Biro of Arizona State in the quarterfinals.
Minnesota's lone defeat in singles play was a three-set loss by Adrien Debreyne to No. 7 seed Jose Orozco of Western Michigan, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Maroon and Gold's No. 3 seed duo of Ticer and Debreyne routed Brett Binkley and Ian Kawas of Marquette, 8-1. The Golden Gophers will take on No. 5 Joerg Barthel and Jose Rivera of Nebraska tomorrow afternoon. UM's Edlefsen and Chi Pham gained an 8-3 upset victory over No. 4 Gerhard Posch and Adrian Szatmary of Nebraska to also advance to the quarterfinals.
Minnesota narrowly missed advancing all three of its doubles teams to the next round when Mikey Kantar and Sion Wilkins dropped an 8-6 match to No. 5 Alex Friesen and Willy Gali-Solanas of Northern Illinois.
