MTN: Minnesota Wraps Up Play at Wisconsin Fall Invitational

conductThe University of Minnesota men's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2005 Wisconsin Fall Invitational today with a 4-2 showing in singles and a 1-2 performance in doubles. The tournament was conducted in a hidden dual format with the Golden Gophers facing Wisconsin, Drake, Iowa, Marquette and Northern Illinois in both singles and doubles.

In singles action, the Golden Gophers went 4-2 in the dual against Northern Illinois. Nic Edlefsen made quick work of Mark Tate with a 6-1, 6-3 victory to improve to 2-2 on the weekend. Sion Wilkins survived a marathon match in a 7-5, 6-7 (6), (10-6) win over NIU's Brian Livingston. Taking straight-set victories were Pete Torgrimson and Pierre Dumas.

The Maroon and Gold went 1-2 in doubles matches against Border Battle rival Wisconsin with Dumas and Adam Altepeter upending Brennen Phippen and Gian Hodgson, 8-6.

Minnesota takes next weekend off in preparation for the Oct. 20-25 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
