MTN: Wisconsin Beats A Depleted Minnesota Lineup, 7-0

Without three of their regular starters, Minnesota lost for only the second time thus far in the Big Ten season (3-2) and their ninth match on the season for an overall record of 5-9. Held out of the lineup today were Avery Ticer (knee), sophomores Nic Edlefsen, and Andres Osorio, causing an entire shakeup of the Gophers lineup.
The Badgers got off to an early start sweeping all three doubles matches to go up 1-0. Wisconsin posted 8-2 victories in both #1 and #2 doubles, and got a hard fought 8-5 win over Dumas and Schwark at #3.
Wisconsin pushed its lead to 2-0 after a victory at #2 singles when Jeremy Sonkin beat D.J. Geatz 6-3, 6-2. From there the Badgers never looked back taking the rest of the matches from the Gophers with victories from Alex Kasarov at #1 (6-3, 6-2), Lachezar Kasarov at #3 (7-5, 6-0), Brian Ko at #5 (6-3, 6-1) and Mark Weining at #6 (7-5, 6- 0).
The closest match of the evening came at #4 singles when the Gophers’ Brian Lipinski lost in the extra set to Badger freshman Felipe Bellido 6-3, 4-6, (10-6).
After the win the Badgers improved its to 7-10 overall and 1-6 in the Big Ten.
Gophers freshman Pierre Dumas appeared in his first match of the Spring season at #5 singles.
