MTN: D.J. Geatz Captures Denver Invitational Consolation Draw Title

inUniversity of Minnesota men's tennis player D.J. Geatz (Minneapolis, Minn.) completed his impressive run in the singles consolation draw of the 2005 Denver Invitational today, defeating James Clow of Nebraska in the final. Geatz, a junior, prevailed in a close 7-6 (8), 7-5 match over the Cornhusker to improve to 4-1 at the tournament and on the season. His lone loss came in the opening round of the Singles Flight A bracket.

Geatz, the son of Minnesota head coach David Geatz, was one of three Golden Gophers competing at the Denver Invitational. Juniors Andres Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) and Sion Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn.) each went 1-2 in singles play. The doubles duo of Geatz and Osorio went 2-1, losing in the quarterfinals.

The 2005 Denver Invitational featured two flights of singles competition consisting of 32 players with a consolation round in each. The doubles bracket was a single-elimination open field of 32 pairs.

The Golden Gophers are next in action at the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 3-9.
