Gophers Complete Day Two at Wildcat Fall Invitational

The Golden Gophers earned six singles wins in day two of the Northwestern Wildcat Fall Invitational in Evanston, Ill. Pierre Dumas and Sebastian Gallego each tallied two wins in Flight A singles to lead the Gophers.

In Flight A singles, Pierre Dumas defeated Birchmeier 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance in the bracket. Sebasitan Gallego won over Hayward 4-6, 6-2, 10-5, also advancing in the bracket. Dumas and Gallego were then forced to play each other, with Gallego coming out on top by scores of 6-1, 1-6, and 10-6. Like Gallego, Tobias Wernet also won two singles matches in the second day of the Wildcat Invitational, beating Grgec 6-3, 6-3, and moving on tow defeat Moncada 6-1, 7-5. Dino Bilankov lost his first match of the day to Moncada 3-6, 6-4, 15-13, but rebounded to defeat Birchmeier 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 in the consolation bracket.

Adam Altepeter was Minnesota’s lone competitor in Flight B singles. He Lost his first match to Staub by scores of 6-3, 6-2, and lost to Jozwiak 6-2, 6-2.

Minnesota struggled in doubles competition in the second day of the tournament, losing all three matches. Adam Altepeter and Derek Peterson lost to Moncada and Doerner 8-2. Gallego and Wernet lost to Norville and Staub 8-4, and Dumas and Bilankov were defeated by Marrack and Dierberger 8-4.

On Friday, the Gophers went 5-1 in singles action. In Flight A singles, Minnesota was 4-0 as Bilankov defeated Dierbev 6-4, 6-0, Dumas won over Rispoli 7-6 (5), 6-4, Wernet won against Doerner 7-6 (3), 6-4, and Gallego defeated Marrack 6-2, 6-7 (9), 11-9. In Flight B singles on Friday, Altepeter added another Gopher victory as he defeated Cadet 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 10-4. Jozwiak handed the Gophers their only loss when he defeated Derek Peterson 6-4, 6-4.
