Four Gopher Tennis Players Earn Regional Singles Rankings

Minnesota senior Raoul Schwark is ranked seventh to lead the Gophers in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region rankings of the season.

Schwark, who was ranked 41st in the preseason national rankings, is one of four Minnesota men’s and women’s players in the regional rankings. Schwark went 9-3 this fall for the Gophers, while freshman Tobias Wernet, who went 8-3 this fall, is ranked 23rd.

On the women’s side, sophomore Tijana Koprivica is ranked 28th in the region and freshman Alessandra Ferrazzi is ranked 30th. Koprivica went 9-5 in the fall and Ferrazzi posted an 11-3 mark. Ferrazzi was also 11-3 in doubles with Karina Chiarelli and the pair is ranked 15th regionally for the only ranked Minnesota doubles team.

The Minnesota women’s team opens spring play by hosting Drake on Jan. 18. The men’s team returns to action at the Purdue Invitational on Jan. 19.
