Schwark Advances to Singles Final at Princeton

Senior Raoul Schwark won both of his matches in straight sets Saturday and freshman Tobias Wernet defeated senior Pierre Dumas 6-4, 6-3 in a consolation bracket matchup of two Gophers Saturday at the Princeton Invitational.

Schwark cruised into Sunday’s final making quick work of both opponents. The tournament’s top-seeded player, Schwark defeated Jared Drucker of Columbia 6-2, 6-1 in his morning quarterfinal match, then knocked off Yale’s Michael Caldwell 6-2, 7-5 (3) in the semis.

He will meet the tournament’s second seed Peter Capkovic of Princeton in Sunday’s final at 10 a.m.

In doubles play, Schwark and Wernet were edged in their only match of the day, falling to the Princeton duo of Carpeni and Krueger-Wyman in the quarterfinals, 8-6.

All matches were forced indoors due to weather.
