Minnesota Looks to Continue Momentum on Road Swing

Minnesota looks to continue its recent momentum as the Gophers hit the road for two Big Ten men’s tennis matches this weekend at Northwestern and Wisconsin.

The Gophers won both conference matches last weekend against Michigan State and Iowa to improve to 4-14 overall and 2-4 in league play. Minnesota will take on Northwestern on Saturday in Evanston, Ill. and faces Wisconsin on Sunday in Madison, Wis. Both matches start at noon.

Minnesota’s Raoul Schwark is ranked 88th individually and is now 21-11 overall with five wins in his last eight matches. Freshman Tobias Wernet has won five straight matches and is now 13-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Northwestern is 7-13 overall and 0-7 in the Big Ten, having lost nine of its last 10 matches. The Gophers have won five of the last six meetings with the Wildcats.

Wisconsin is 13-8 overall and 5-2 in the league. The Badgers are ranked 32nd in the country and feature the nation’s 44th-ranked player in sophomore Moritz Baumann, who is 8-8 at the No. 1 position. Marek Michalicka is 17-2, playing at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.

The Gophers return home the following weekend for their final two matches of the regular season on Fri., April 18 against Illinois and Sun., April 20 against Purdue.
