Gophers Win Second Straight With 4-3 Win at Iowa

Minnesota made it two straight Big Ten victories with a 4-3 men’s tennis win at Iowa on Saturday in Iowa City.
The Gophers, who also beat Michigan State 6-1 on Friday, won two of three doubles matches and picked up three singles wins in improving to 4-14 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Iowa is ranked 57th in the country and fell to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten.
Minnesota picked up the doubles point with a pair of easy wins as Chi Pham and Tobias Wernet combined for an 8-4 win at No. 2 and Pierre Dumas and Raoul Schwark earned an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Schwark followed with a No. 1 singles victory over 69th-ranked Bart van Monsjou 6-4, 6-3 and Wernet and Pham each added wins to seal the victory. Pham won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Wernet was a 7-6, 6-2 winner at No. 3. Dino Bilankov battled to a three-set loss at No. 4 by a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 score.
Minnesota plays at Northwestern on Sat., April 12 at noon.
