Megan Duwell Wins Intrasquad Meet Title

Megan Duwell captured medalist honors at the Minnesota women’s cross country team’s annual intrasquad meet, but it was the Gold squad that defeated Duwell’s Maroon team by a 24-32 count. Duwell, a junior, covered the 5-kilometer course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn., in a time of 18 minutes, 3 seconds.
Junior Elizabeth Yetzer topped the Gold team with a second-place showing in a time of 18:28, and was followed by Gold teammates Mallory Van Ness (18:31) and Amy Laskowske (18:34). Transfer Felicitias Mensing, running for the Maroon team, rounded out the top five clocking a time of 18:55.
“It was good for our athletes to get out and run a race,” said Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. “We showed we are in good shape starting the season, but also that we can get so much better. It should be an exciting season.”
Minnesota opened its 2008 season next Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Gophers play host to the Oz Memorial Run.
