Gophers Head To ITA Central Region Championship

Four members of the men's tennis team are competing in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship in Norman, Okla. The event, which will be held at both the Headington Family Tennis Center and the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion, begins today and concludes on Monday, Oct. 25.

The four Gophers competing are seniors Sebastian Gallego and Tobias Wernet, junior Phillip Arndt and sophomore Rok Bonin. All four are playing in the 64-player singles draw and doubles as well. Gallego is seeded fifth and Wernet is seeded ninth in singles. In doubles, Gallego and Arndt are seeded second.

In singles, Gallego will meet Wichita State freshman Guillermo Nicol in the first round, while Wernet will play Oklahoma freshman John Warden. Arndt plays Nebraska junior Christopher Aumueller and Bonin, who won the DU Pioneer Invitational earlier this year, will play Nebraska sophomore Eric Sock.

In doubles, the 28th-ranked duo of Gallego and Arndt play Big Ten rivals Marc Bruche and Jonas Dierckx from Iowa. Bonin and Wernet begin doubles play against Peerakit Siributwong and Tsvetan Mihov from Oklahoma.
