Gophers Eliminated At ITA Central Region Championship

Four members of the men's tennis team competed in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship in Norman, Okla. The event, which is being held at both the Headington Family Tennis Center and the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion, began Friday and concludes on Monday.

The four Gophers who competed were seniors Sebastian Gallego and Tobias Wernet, junior Phillip Arndt and sophomore Rok Bonin. All four were in the 64-player single draw and played doubles as well. Gallego was seeded fifth and Wernet was the ninth seed. In doubles, Gallego and Arndt received the second seed.  

All four Gophers won their opening-round singles matches, but only Wernet won more than one match. His tournament ended in the round of 16.

In doubles, the 28th-ranked duo of Gallego and Arndt won their first two matches before losing in the quarterfinals. On the other end of the bracket, Bonin and Wernet also won their first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals.
