Hamburg, who has been ranked in the top 100 in national rankings in every age group he has been eligible for, has a career record of 111-1 in high school. He has competed for Stevens since he was in the seventh grade and is a 10-time South Dakota State Tennis Champion, winning five singles and five doubles titles.
"Jack is a great athlete who has a tremendous amount of upside to his game," said Minnesota coach Geoff Young. "He possesses a huge serve and forehand, which he will continue to develop his game around. His athleticism will let him thrive in a college atmosphere, where he'll be competing on a regular basis. A great student as well, I look for Jack to become a leader of this team in the future. I am very excited to have him join the Golden Gophers."
Hamburg is a four-start recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net. He won the 2008 and 2009 Boys 16's USTA Northern Section singles and doubles championships. In 2009 he received the USTA Intersectionals Sportsmanship Award, which was given to one junior player in the nation.
