Fisher Advances to NCAAs in High Jump

Golden Gopher senior Matt Fisher punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with a top-12 finish at the NCAA Preliminary Meet in Austin, Texa, on Friday. Fisher cleared a height of 7 feet, 1 inch in the high jump to finish seventh among the 12 leapers advancing from the West meet.
Junior Ben Peterson fell one spot shy of making the NCAA Championships field finishing 13th in the pole vault. Peterson, the indoor and outdoor Big Ten champion, cleared 17-2 1/4. Brock Spandl finished in a tie for 22nd with a height of 16-8 3/4.Micah Hegerle competed in the first of two events at the West Prelims. Hegerle finished 19th in the hammer throw with a toss of 195-0.Travis Burkstand was the only Gopher in action today on the track. Burkstrand placed 21st in the 800-meter run quarterfinals with a tie of 1 minute, 53.22 seconds.The West Preliminary meet concludes on Saturday.
