Eight Gophers competed in Colorado, and the only two players who were not there were senior Sebastian Gallego and freshman Ben Mirkin. Gallego is ranked No. 48 in the Campbell/ITA Preseason Rankings after earning all-Big Ten honors and being named the team's Most Valuable Player last year.
Sophomore Rok Bonin won the event with a perfect 4-0 singles record. Bonin was 2-0 on Friday after wins against New Mexico's Carl Ho and Denver's Fabio Biasion. He then topped New Mexico's Conor Berg on Saturday and clinched the title with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Yannick Weihs of Denver today. Bonin needed three sets to defeat Ho and Berg.
In addition to Bonin's title, other Gophers finished the event on a high note as well. Seven Gophers faced off against Denver today, and Minnesota won five of those matches. Winning matches for the maroon and gold were Bonin, Phillip Arndt, Julian Dehn, Brendan Ruddock and Eddie Svenda.
Minnesota also played four doubles matches against New Mexico on Sunday, but was victorious in only one of them. Dehn and Svenda partnered for the team's lone win.
The Gophers, who were 14-11 overall last season and 6-4 in the Big Ten, next play in the Oct. 1-3 Harvard Invitational in Boston.
