Mead an All-Amerian Again for the Gophers

The Minnesota Men's track and field team wrapped up the first day of the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Minnesota's 800 meter trio and Hassan Mead (5,000 meters) competed this evening in Nampa, Idaho.
Mead finished seventh overall in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:51.98. With the eighth place finish Mead earns an All-American accolade to add to his trophy case of an incredible career.
"Hassan ran a pretty solid race today against a very strong field in the 5,000 meters," head coach Steve Plasencia said.
The Gophers will have one runner in the finals of the 800 meters tomorrow. David Pachuta ran a 1:49.02 to finish eighth and quality for the finals tomorrow. Harun Abda ran a 1:49.17 to take 10th and Travis Burkstrand finished with a time of 1:50.29. Both did not qualify to the finals.
Tomorrow Micah Hegerle will compete in the weigh throw, while the 4x400 relay team of Kevin Bradley, Abda, Pachuta and John Holton will also compete, on the final day of the NCAA championships.
