TULSA, Okla. - Minnesota men's tennis players Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg dropped their 2013 USTA/ITA Central Region Championship doubles match in Tulsa, Okla. Monday morning. The third-seeded Gopher tandem fell 8-5 to Drake's Robin Goodman and Ravi Patel in the championship.

To reach the final, Froment and Hamburg, who went 7-8 together last season in the No. 1 position together in 2012-13, won four straight matches after receiving a bye in the Round of 64.

The pair began their run Friday a win against Tulsa's Hamish Weerasinghe and Ashton Kalhorn and continued the following day with a triumph over Alejandro Espejo and Dylan McCloskey of Bradley.

Sunday began in the quarterfinal round, in which Froment and Hamburg downed Oklahoma State's Vasili Caripi and Lucas Gerch 8-6 in their second two-point match of the tournament. The junior duo then moved on to the semifinal round to face 35th-ranked and second-seeded Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez of Oklahoma. Froment and Hamburg came out on top once again, this time by a score of 8-4.

Monday's match ended Froment and Hamburg's winning streak, which included their first win against a ranked opponent.

Minnesota will pick up play this Friday through Sunday will it travels to the Big Ten Singles Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. The team will welcome Penn, Dartmouth, Princeton, Denver, Western Michigan, and DePaul to the Baseline Tennis Center Oct. 31-Nov. 3 for the Gopher Invitational.
