Bonin Ends Gopher Career at NCAA Championships

Rok Bonin closed out his senior season today after a three-set loss in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship in Urbana, Ill. Bonin, the No. 53 player in the tournament battled Auburn's No. 19-ranked Andreas Mies but ultimately fell by scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 7-5.
After a slow start where he dropped the first set, 6-1, Bonin rebounded to dominate in the second and force a deciding game. Riding that momentum, Bonin pulled out to a 4-1 lead at the start of the third and final set. Mies tightened the gap to 4-4 before Bonin could stop the run with a4-30 victory in the fifth game. The two players traded points to a 5-5 tie, forcing an extended decider. In the end, Mies managed to overpower Bonin and win the final two to advance to the next round of competition.
Bonin ends his Gopher career with a 72-49 overall record in singles competition. With 73 total doubles wins (73-39), Bonin claims a place on Minnesota's all-time winners list, tying for fifth in program history.
