DURHAM, N.H. – The Minnesota women’s gymnastics team eclipsed the 196-point mark for the second time in as many meets to run away with the Wildcat Invitational in Durham, N.H. The Gophers’ 196.025 score was good enough to defeat host New Hampshire, which scored a 193.7, and fellow invitees Brown and Yale, which scored 192.55 and 187.5, respectively.

With the meet win, which included three event wins, the Gophers are now 6-0 on the season with one meet left in the month of January.

The Gophers began the meet on the uneven bars, where they jumped out to a lead by racking up a 49.1 score. Minnesota had five of the top six performers, including the top three. Cierra Tomson, who won the all around at the team’s last meet, won the event with a 9.9. Tying for second with Brown’s Alexandra Chretien at 9.825 were Lindsay Mable and Madie Hanley. Bailie Holst and Jenny Covers’ 9.775 tied them for fifth.

The balance beam was Minnesota’s second event and was the only event the team didn’t win—UNH’s 48.275 was enough to beat out the Maroon and Gold’s 48.175. The Wildcats’ Kayla Gray won the competition with a 9.875 and her teammate, Adrienne Hill, tied Minnesota’s Kylie Schermann for second with a 9.8.

The Gophers’ recorded their highest event score of the season on the floor, nabbing a 49.375. Mable and Schermann starred for Minnesota in the competition, each earning a 9.925 with her performance.

Minnesota posted its highest team vault score of the year, registering a 49.325 and taking the top three spots on the event leaderboard. Mable achieved a new season high score of 9.925 and was followed in the top three by teammates Schermann and Covers, who each scored a 9.9.

For the second time in three meets, Mable earned the top all-around score, posting a season-best 39.45. Tomson finished with a 39.05 to place second.

After traveling over 4,000 miles in the past week, the Gophers will return home next Saturday to kick off Big Ten action when they host Illinois at the Sports Pavilion.
