Gophers Take Down Hawkeyes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Golden Gophers hosted the Hawkeyes in the annual Pack the Pool event. A big hometown crowd highlighted the Gophers wins over Iowa. The night included free t-shirts, costumes and a Goldy dressed as Spiderman.
200 MEDLEY RELAY
The relay team of Katelyn Holmquist, Rae Bullinger, Danielle Nack and Abigail Raatz claimed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.14, after the "A" relay disqualified.
The Minnesota men followed suit, placing second with a time of 1:30.23. Members included Daryl Turner, Conner McHugh, Paul Fair and Ryan Miksch.
1000 FREE
Senior Kiera Janzen finished with a 9:46.84 in the 1000 freestyle for first place. Sam Harding (9:57.83) andBrooke Lorentzen (10:08.80) went 3-4 in the event for the Gophers.
CJ Smith finished the 1000 free over 12 seconds faster than Iowa's top swimmer. Smith finished first with a time of 9:10.32.
200 FREE
Junior Lauren Votava took first in the 200 free, finishing with a time of 1:49.13. Jessica Plant followed, finishing second with a time of 1:49.46.
On the men's side, Paul Fair finished strong with a time of 1:40.13 to take home the gold. Erick Huft took third with a 1:40.68.
100 BACK
Tori Simenec finished with a 55.43 in the 100 back for second place. Katelyn Holmquist finished fourth with a time of 57.06.
100 BREAST
Blake Zeiger (1:04.77) and Rae Bullinger (1:05.42) took second and third place in the 100 breast.
The men's team followed suit, placing second and third in the 100 breast. Freshman Conner McHughfinished with a time of 56.03, followed by Jakub Maly (56.92).
200 FLY
Senior Devin Ste. Marie finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.45. Sophomore Maddie Hoch followed, placing second with a time of 2:03.36.
Nick Orf finished second in the men's 200 fly with a 1:48.67.
50 FREE
Becca Weiland led the women in the 50 free with a time of 22.94. Abigail Raatz, Alli Schumacher andDanielle Nack followed suit, sweeping the event.
Daryl Turner picked up a first-place finish in the 50 free, the sophomore finished with a time of 20.48. Sophomore Ian Gordon finished fourth with a time of 21.08.
100 FREE
Lauren Votava picked up her second win of the night in the 100 free, finishing first with a time of 50.42. Becca Weiland finished second with a time of 50.47.
Paul Fair finished second in the 100 free with a time of 45.54. Ryan Miksch followed with a time of 46.04.
200 BACK
Freshman Brooke Zeiger finished first in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.37; Maddie Hoch finished third with a time of 2:03.21.
Senior Carl Newenhouse finished with a time of 1:47.60 in the 200 back for second place.
200 BREAST
Blake Zeiger finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.19.
Freshman Conner McHugh finished with a time of 2:02.01 in the 200 breast for second place in the event.Jakub Maly followed for third with a time of 2:03.19.
500 FREE
Senior Kiera Janzen picked up her second win of the night in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.04. Junior Sam Harding followed with a time of 4:52.55.
100 FLY
Freshman Danielle Nack placed first in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 54.61. Sophomore Alli Schumacher followed with a time of 56.12.
Nick Orf placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 50.02.
200 IM
Freshman Brooke Zeiger had her second win of the night after finishing first in the 200 IM, the rookie finished with a time of 2:03.21.
Jakub Maly picked up a much-needed win in the 200 IM for the Gophers. The sophomore finished with a time of 1:50.14. Andrew Hartbarger followed with a time of 1:51.17.
400 FREE RELAY
The Gopher women took first and second in the last meet of the night. Lauren Votava, Becca Weiland, Blake Zeiger and Jessica Plant took first with a time of 3:23.93.
Daryl Turner, Paul Fair, Ryan Miksch and Carl Newenhouse finished with a time of 2:59.93 in the 400 free relay.
1 METER DIVING
Yu Zhou finished first on the women's one-meter board. Zhou totaled 329.48 points. Teammates Katy Etterman and Lexi Tenenbaum followed for second and third place.
Junior Manny Pollard took home the gold on the men's one-meter, finishing with a total of 360.45 points in the event.
3 METER DIVING
Lext Tenenbaum placed first on the three-meter, totaling 322.73 points in the event. Katy Etterman took third with 295.20 points.
Manny Pollard swept the diving competition when he placed first on the three-meter. Pollard had 388.73 points on the night. Fellow junior Dylan Zoe and sophomore Matt Barnard followed.
