MINNEAPOLIS -- No. 14 Minnesota improved its record to 9-1 overall and kept pace at 3-1 in the Big Ten by defeatin Michigan State, 196.025-193.700, on Saturday evening at the Sports Pavilion.
The Gophers overcame a rough performance on uneven bars, with a season-best total of 49.275 on beam, and reached 196 or more points for the fifth time this season.
Sophomore Hanna Nordquist and junior Kylie Schermann each established career-high scores of 9.950 on beam for the Gophers, while sophomore Lindsay Mable closed the competition by tying her career-best of 9.975 on floor exercise. It's the third time this season that Mable has received a 9.975 on floor.
Mable ran away with the all-around title, earning a score of 39.550, which is her second-best all-around total this season and just shy of her career-high of 39.600. Mable opened with a 9.875 on vault, followed with a 9.825 on bars and scored a 9.875 on beam before her floor performance.
Senior Kayla Slechta won the vault with a season-best 9.925 and equaled her season-high with a 9.875 on floor. Sophomore Madie Hanley recorded a career-high to win bars for the Gophers.
Minnesota travels to Iowa State for a 6:30 p.m. Meet next Friday, before returning home for the Always Dreaming Best of Minnesota meet with Hamline, Gustavus and Winona State on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 p.m.
