Six Gymnasts Earn Academic All-B1G Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Six members of the Minnesota women's gymnastics team were named to the Big Ten Academic All-Conference team, the league announced. In total, 678 winter sports student-athletes were named to the team, including 52 women's gymnasts. Seniors Justine Cherwink and Kayla Slechta, juniors Kylie Schermann and Cierra Tomson, and sophomores Madie Hanley and Lindsay Mable received the distinction.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

Slechta (kinesiology) was selected to her third academic all-conference team, while Cherwink (chemical engineering), Schermann (human resources and industrial relations) and Tomson (finance) each made her second academic all-conference team. Hanley and Mable (both undeclared) earned the accolade in the first year they were eligible.

The No. 14-ranked Gophers will get back to competition Saturday, April 5, at the Sports Pavilion in the NCAA Regional. They will be joined by No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 11 Illinois, California, Southern Utah, and San Jose State.
