ATHENS, Ga. - The Minnesota men's tennis season came to an end Friday when junior Leandro Toledo saw his NCAA Singles Tournament run come to an end with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 loss to No. 28-ranked Alex Sarkissian of Pepperdine in the Round of 16 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.

Ranked 38th in the nation, Toledo finished his junior season 23-10 in including marks of 19-7 on the spring season and 9-4 against ranked opponents.

By defeating sixth-ranked Alex Domijan of Virginia, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (12), 6-4 Wednesday and 38th-ranked Diego Galeano of Baylor, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 Thursday in the first two rounds, Toledo became the first Gopher since 2002 to reach the third round of the tournament.

With the pair of national tournament wins, Toledo became Minnesota's eighth different All-American--the first at the school in 12 years. He was the 26th Gopher to qualify for the national singles tournament. He was the last player standing among the seven Big Ten student-athletes to make the 64-player field.

Last week, Toledo was named the ITA Central Region's Player to Watch after his successful 2013-14 campaign that included his third-career All-Big Ten selection, a unanimous first-team nod.
