MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota women's gymnastics fell for the second time this weekend when No. 1 Oklahoma visited the Sports Pavilion on Saturday evening. The Gophers, who are now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league competition, were defeated by the defending national champions, 196.500-194.475. The Sooners won three of the four events en route to their two point victory.

For the second meet in a row, the Gophers' best event was vault as Minnesota scored a 49.950. Senior Jenny Covers recorded a 9.875 to lead the Maroon and Gold. Minnesota's team score was an improvement from Thursday's meet and Covers earned a third place finish behind Oklahoma's Chayse Capps and Haley Scaman who both earned 9.900. Junior Lindsay Mable finished right behind covers with a score of 9.850.

Senior Cierra Tomson anchored Minnesota on uneven bars, posting a score of 9.875, to put the Maroon and Gold within a point of the top-ranked Sooners after the second rotation was complete. Mable and Covers each pitched in a score of 9.800 to bring the Gophers' event total to 48.875. Brenna Dowell of Oklahoma scored a 9.950 to secure the event title. Tomson would finish in third place on bars behind Dowell and Scaman who scored a 9.900.

Mable came out on top, winning her fifth event title of the year and first on the balance beam, as she tallied a 9.900 on the apparatus. Junior Hanna Nordquist was not far behind as she posted a solid 9.875 to tie her season high on beam. Nordquist finished in a tie second place with Oklahoma's Capps.

The final event for the Gophers brought three deductions for stepping out-of-bounds while Mable tallied a 9.875 on the event to cap off her all-around victory. The next closest score for the Maroon and Gold was Covers who recorded a 9.650 on the evening's final event. Mable finished in third place in the overall standings behind Kara Lovan and Scaman who both recorded a 9.900.

Mable's all-around crown marks the third of the season in as many competitions. She now has five event titles and three all-around titles in 2015.

The No. 11 Gophers will look for their first road and conference win of the season next Saturday as they travel to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. CT.
