AUSTIN, Texas - The Minnesota men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 4-1 to ninth-ranked Texas in the first match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center in Austin, Texas. The Gophers won the doubles competition, but dropped the first four singles matches to finish.

The defeat moved the Gophers' 2015 record to 2-1.

Though Minnesota claimed the doubles point, Texas gained an early advantage in the competition when No. 51 Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen defeated Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg in the top position.

The Gophers stormed back, however, as 58th-ranked Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin pulled out a 6-4 triumph at the second spot. The win came in the first dual match the duo played together after going 3-1 in the fall. The first point came down to the No. 3 spot, where Eric Frueh and Matic Spec rallied for a 7-6 (6) victory.

The Maroon and Gold put up a fight in singles, but ultimately fell after dropping straight-set decisions at the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 positions.

Corwin dropped a 6-2, 6-4 contest at No. 4 for just his second collegiate singles loss in 15 matches. The Longhorns pulled ahead when No. 13 Hess-Oleson topped 17th-ranked Toledo and got within one win of a team victory when No. 48 Adrien Berkowicz downed Hamburg at No. 2. The match came to an end when John Mee downed Frueh at No. 6.

Spec and Ruben Weber won sets at Nos. 5 and 3, respectively, but were unable to finish their matches.

The Gophers will take on either Florida State or Michigan Sunday to close out the weekend.
