He got to compete in one more match in the back draw of the consolation picking up a (5-7, 6-3, 6-1) victory over Marco Nunez of Florida State.
Spec, No. 38, began play in the main draw against Christian Seraphim out of Wake Forest. The two went toe to toe with Spec pulling out a (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) win.
In the round of 32 Spec's match got moved inside due to rain where he faced off against Dominik Koepfer of Tulane. He fell (6-3, 6-3) to end his play there.
"It was the first tournament of the season and I am glad I got the win against a good opponent," Spec said. "There is still alot of things to work on. All in all I think it was a good opening to my sophomore year."
Up next the Gophers will be competing at the ITA Regionals. Spec and Corwin had a strong showing there a season ago both reaching the round of 16. We will have a full preview early next week.
