Men's Tennis Adds Lovitt, Ogilvy

The University of Minnesota men's tennis team signed Eli Ogilvy and George Lovitt to NLIs for the 2016-17 season.

"I think Eli and George will be two standout players here at the University of Minnesota," head coach Geoff Young said. "They both have athleticism which will enable them to improve to a level where they can be impact players for us as we continue to try to climb the ranks of college tennis nationally. They are both good students and the kind of people that will be a great fit for the culture of our program. "

Ogilvy out of Mississauga, Ont., has qualified and competed in Canadian Nationals both indoor and outdoor since he competed at the under-14 level. He has also competed in over 20 international Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments.

Ogilvy was ranked as high as 280 in the ITF junior circuit, 13 in Canadian juniors and won his first ITF tournament in Bermuda June of 2014. In the classroom he has earned academic honors every year of high school at Silverthorn Collegiate Institute and plans to major in Biology.

Lovitt out of Marvin, N.C., has been named all-conference and all-state every season of his high school career playing for Marvin Ridge High School. He was the state runner up the past two seasons and led his team to the state championship as a captain last season. He will be the captain of this year's team as well.

Lovitt was ranked as high as 78 in the US and represented North Carolina in Regional Zonal competitions in 2014 and 2015. He has trained at the Johan Kriek and Tim Wilkison Academy. He plans to major in business.
