Three Gophers competed at the Big Ten Indoor Championships this weekend with two doubles and three singles wins to show for it.
All day Friday saw the teams battle it out in doubles. Jeremy Lynn and Jesse Sprinkel paired up to grab a win early on over Michigan State's Colin Harvey and Ivan Rakic. Sprinkel is 4-3 in doubles so far this season while Lynn is 3-2. The duo would drop their next match before Sprinkel paired up with fellow freshman Marino Alpeza in a consolation match to win 6-4 over Roman Truklija and Zach Lieb of Penn State.
Alpeza was the only one of the three to win a singles match in the main draw with a (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4) win over Renan Hanayama out of Purdue. Alpeza would have to leave his next match in the third set due to injury in what was an absolute battle of a match before he retired.
"It was a good weekend overall," Alpeza said. "I have learned a lot of new things and realized what I should work on for the future."
Lynn picked up a win in the consolation draw (6-3, 7-6 (3) over Nebraska's Chris Schindler before dropping a tough match today to Jonas Larson out of Iowa. Alpeza was back on the court today and won to improve to 4-2 in singles this fall. Sprinkel has had some close matches but things just have not quite gone his way yet as he still searches for his first singles victory.
