GENEVA, Ohio - Titania Markland, Devin Stanford and Kimberly Golding led the Gophers with top-four individual finishes and Minnesota also placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay on day two of the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute Saturday.
Markland led the way with a B1G runner-up showing in the 600m final, Devin Stanford was third in the weight throw, and Kimberly Golding placed fourth in the 60m hurdles. The 4x400m relay team of Emerald Egwim, Erin Hawkins, Jessica Waldvogel and Markland also picked up five points with a fourth-place finish in a season-best 3:37.03.
Minnesota finished ninth in the team standings with 51 points. Ohio State took home the women's team title with 84 points, followed by Michigan (69 points), Penn State (68), Purdue (68), Michigan State (65) and Nebraska (65) as the top six teams with two ties to make up the top five places. Wisconsin was seventh (58), followed by Maryland (53), ahead of the Gophers.
"Obviously, we're disappointed in our overall team finish," director of women's track & field and cross country Matt Bingle said. "But, we had some great performances and some great efforts. We had a few school records and lots of top 10 marks, and I feel good about some of our individual performances.
"We knew we were going to be better outdoors than indoors this year but expected a little more out of this weekend. I know this team is going to get back to work and keep moving forward and doing the right things. They'll bring it together so we're better outdoors."
Minnesota scored 11 points in the 600m final. Markland secured her runner-up finish with a career-best time of 1:29.91, the third-best time by a Gopher in program history. Meanwhile, Lauren Domski clocked a 1:31.48 for sixth place, finishing just .04 seconds off her career best. Domski joins Markland among Minnesota's all-time ranks at fifth in program history (1:31.44).
Lyndsey Thorpe joined Stanford in scoring points in the weight throw. Stanford used a throw of 20.13m to secure six points in third place, and Thorpe posted a career-best toss of 19.41m to move into fourth among all-time Gophers. Ke-ke Burks also had a career-best throw of 17.20m to move into 10th in Minnesota history.
One day after both Golding and Emma Spagnola bettered the Minnesota program record in the 60m hurdles, Golding clocked a time of 8.38 seconds for fourth in the Big Ten. Spagnola also ran in the final, placing ninth in 8.53.
B1G day one highlights for the Gophers included Jess Herauf winning the pentathlon with a B1G record 4,361 points. Erin Hawkins also had a record-breaking performance, clocking a time of 24.03 in the 200m preliminary to set a new Minnesota indoor record.
Saturday at the B1G meet also included Kaila Urick representing the Maroon & Gold in the mile final, finishing ninth in 4:48.17 a day after running a career-beset 4:45.28 to move into ninth among all-time Gopher milers.

Rookie Heta Tuuri also competed in her first B1G meet and was the lone Gopher to record a mark in the high jump. She cleared 1.68m for 13th place.
