Gophers Blank Indiana, Improve to 14-5

MINNEAPOLIS -- The 31st-ranked Minnesota men's tennis team moved to 14-5 on the season with a 4-0 win against 39th-ranked Indiana at the Baseline Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the Gophers a 5-0 record in the Big Ten and a perfect 10-0 mark at home.
The Maroon and Gold has taken down eight ranked opponents this season. The win averaged a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Hoosiers in last season's Big Ten Tournament.
The Gophers opened the match by winning the doubles competition for the 16th time in 19 contests. No. 76-ranked Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin got the day started on a positive note by winning 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. They are now 14-2 together, including 11-1 in dual matches.
At No. 1 doubles, 49th-ranked Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead by defeating Daniel Bednarczyk and Sam Monette, 8-6. They are now 7-6 in the top flight after winning their fourth match in a row together.
Toledo, the 25th-ranked singles player in the nation, kept the momentum going for the Gophers by taking a quick, 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top position. The win was his 20th of 2014-15. Froment made it 3-0 with his fourth consecutive singles triumph at No. 6.
To seal the team win, No. 104-ranked Matic Spec won for the seventh-straight time in singles, topping Raheel Manji, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.
With wins in its last four matches, Minnesota will hit the road next weekend to take on No. 11 Ohio State and No. 50 Penn State.
