`U' Wins Seven Titles at Carleton Relays

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Gophersports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program combined for seventitles at the Carleton Relays on Saturday afternoon at Laird Stadium.
Ben Holcomb won his second 110-meter hurdles title of the weekend with a time of 14.94 after winning the Tom Cat Twilight on Thursday. Holcomb held off runner-up Luca Wieland at 15.23.
Gemechu Godi also picked up his second individual title of the weekend with a 48.63 in the 400 meters -- a new personal record -- after winning the 200 meters at St. Thomas on Thursday. Godi was also part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team (along with Brad Neumann, Quinton Coleman and Jordan Charles) that picked up a second win on the weekend at 41.34.
Meanwhile,theGophers carried the top-five finishers in the discus with Sam Elsner hitting 56.14 meters (184-02 ft.) for his second win of the weekend followed by Justin Barber (55.58 meters, 182-04 ft.), Mark Jennings (53.85 meters, 176-08 ft.), Luke Johnson (52.59 meters, 172-06 ft.) and Bryan Bjerk (50.64 meters, 166-02 ft.).
Gian Ferretti won the hammer throw with his toss of 67.48 meters (221-05 ft.) -- his third win of the year -- as five Gophers paced the event. Barber (59.71 meters, 195-10), Mac Riedy (58.02 meters, 190-04 ft.), Viktor Stelter (55.89 meters, 183-04 ft.) and Elsner (54.83 meters, 179-10 ft.) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Maroon & Gold.
Jennings (18.52 meters, 60-09.25 ft.) and Johnson (17.76 meters, 58-03.25 ft.) finished first and second, respectively, in the shot put.
True freshman Tyler Tappe won the pole vault with a new personal record of 5.00 meters (16-04.75 ft.).
