Stanford, Calif. (Gophersports.com) -- Several members of the University of Minnesota men's track & field team were in action on Friday night as the Gophers kicked off the 2015 Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
The Gophers ran three competitors in the 400-meter dash with all three runners winning their heats and finishing in the top 10 overall on Friday night. Nate Roese paced the group with a 47.28 to finish fourth while Goaner Deng clocked a 47.64 to come in eighth and Mitch Hechsel finished 10th overall at 47.69.
Ben Holcomb finished second in his heat for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 and will run in Saturday's final.
Brad Neumann finished second in his 100-meter heat at 10.67, however he was the first man out of the finals.
The Gophers ran a pair of competitors in the 1,500 meter heats as Blayne Dulian clocked a 3:48.96 to finish sixth in his heat while Christian Skaret ran a 3:51.54 to come in third in his heat.
Meanwhile in the field events, the Gophers posted a trio of top-10 finishes. After winning the NCAA heptathlon title last month, Luca Wieland made his outdoor season debut with a third-place finish in the long jump. Wieland hit 7.49 meters (24-07.00 ft.). Trevor Yedoni came in 10th in the long jump at 6.93 meters (22-09.00 ft.) and Ryan Lockard tied for 10th in the high jump at 2.01 meters (6-07.00 ft.).
The Gophers continue to compete at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
