WACO, Texas -- Minnesota men's tennis senior Leandro Toledo fell, 6-4, 6-4, to Harvard's Denis Nguyen in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. No. 22-ranked Toledo concluded a decorated career in the Maroon and Gold with the match against Nguyen, who entered the contest ranked 34th in the nation.

Toledo finished his time with the Gophers with a 97-45 singles record after going 26-13 in his senior season with a 19-9 mark on the spring at the No. 1 position. Named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year, Toledo's 19 wins at the top singles spot matched the most by a Gopher since 1994. After becoming Minnesota's first All-American since 2002 last season, he became the first four-time all-conference honoree in program history this year.

The Hamburg, Germany native made Minnesota's 27th all-time appearance in the NCAA Singles Tournament. His 97-career singles wins tie him for ninth in Minnesota history.

This season, Toledo collected nine wins over ranked opponents--he topped 24 ranked foes in his four years with the Gophers.

Toledo's match concluded Minnesota's season as a whole. This year, the Maroon and Gold went 21-8, including ledgers of 12-0 at home and 10-1 in the Big Ten. The team captured a share of its first Big Ten title since 1995 and matched its highest win total since 2000, making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven years.
