AUSTIN, Texas (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field team closed out the 2015 NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round on Saturday with a pair of noteworthy performances in the 1,500 meters and the 4x400 meter relay.

Senior captain Blayne Dulian closed out his collegiate career on Saturday by running a 3:46.25 in the 1,500-meter quarterfinals. Dulian finished 16th in the event -- just shy of advancing to the national championships next month in Eugene, Ore.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Mitch Hechsel, Goaner Deng, Nate Roese and Rashawn Fountain also finished 16th in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The squad clocked a 3:07.07 at Mike A. Myers Stadium for Minnesota's top performance in the event this year -- less than one second off the final qualifier from the preliminary round.

The Maroon & Gold will send four competitors to the 2015 NCAA Track & Field Championships, June 10-13, in Eugene, Ore. On Friday, Deng qualified with a personal record of 1:48.64 in the 800 meters, Luke Johnson hit a personal record as well in the shot put at 18.70 meters (61-04.25 ft.) to advance and Gian Ferretti qualified in the hammer throw with a 65.39 meters (214-06 ft.). Luca Wieland previously qualified for the decathlon competition.
