MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team held their annual Intrasquad Meet at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. During a phenomenal exhibition, the Gophers collectively earned a final score of 191.775.

"There was a lot of really good performances today," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "We had some hiccups, but that's to be expected at the beginning of the year. I think we learned a lot from today and we're going to be better for next weekend."

The Gold team, comprised of seniors Lindsay Mable, Hanna Nordquist, juniors Bailie Holst and Kaitlin Rahon, sophomore Hannah Hitchcock and freshman Rachel Cutler, started the meet on vault before moving to beam. The Maroon Team, made up of senior Madeline Hanley, juniors Bailey Abernathy and Rachel Haines, sophomores Ciara Gardner, Abby DeMuse, Rachel Rowland and freshman Selena Ung, competed on beam followed by vault.

On vault, Abernathy finished with the top score with a 9.80, followed by Mable with 9.75. Rounding out the top five were DeMuse, Gardner and Holst who tallied 9.625, 9.525 and 9.425, respectively.

"Bailey performed a brand new vault tonight and stuck it which was awesome," said Hansen. "Abby has never competed her vault either and she performed it beautifully."

Mable earned the highest score on beam and of the night with a 9.90. Nordquist finished right behind Mable with a 9.875 followed by Hanley, Rahon and Ung who notched 9.575, 9.55 and 9.475, respectively.

After two rotations, the Gold Team led narrowly with a 48.375 to the Maroon Team's 48.125.

In the third and fourth rotations, the Gold Team took to the uneven bars and floor exercise while the Maroon Team started things out on the floor before taking the action to bars.

Gardner claimed first on uneven bars with a score of 9.75. Holst finished second after earning a 9.725. Mable and Hanley tied for third with identical scores of 9.70 followed by Cutler, who earned the mark of 9.575.

Gardner also earned top honors on floor after finishing with a score of 9.75. Mable took second with a 9.70 followed. DeMuse, Rahon and Abernathy closed out the top five after tallying 9.45, 8.975 and 8.95, respectively.

In the all-around, Mable won the final crown with a total of 39.05 on the night.

Altogether, the Gold and Maroon Teams finished with a grand total of 191.775.

"We have a lot of notes we're going to take from tonight and work on in preparation for next weekend, but I think today was a really good practice for us which is exactly what we needed," said Hansen. "The Intrasquad Meet is to remember what it feels like to be in the Sports Pavilion with the fans, the equipment and the general atmosphere, so we can come back prepared for the real deal."

The Maroon and Gold are back in action at the Sports Pavilion this Saturday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. as they face Iowa State in the first regular-season meet of the 2016 campaign.
