Spec Advances to Quarterfinals at Regionals

Minnesota student-athlete Matic Spec is advancing to the main singles draw quarterfinals at the ITA Central Region Championships after a victory Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.
Along with Spec's win, the Gophers picked up six consolation wins but no doubles victories after the last Maroon and Gold duo was eliminated yesterday.
Spec defeated Oklahoma State's Lucas Gerch to advance to the quarterfinals. After falling 4-6 in the first set, Spec rebounded with a 6-1 win in the second set and won the third set 6-4. He will play tomorrow for a chance in the semifinals.
Freshman Eli Ogilvy defeated Mike Psarros of Missouri-Kansas City 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10) then was up 6-2 in his next match before his opponent retired. He will play tomorrow in the consolation draw at 10 a.m.
Marino Alpeza won his match against St. Louis's Paarth Dodhiawala 6-0, 6-4.
Jeremy Lynn fell to Tulsa's Jarod Hing (6-1, 6-2) and Jesse Sprinkel was defeated by Wilder Pimentel of Southern Illinois (6-2, 6-3).
Josip Krstanovic picked up another win, defeating Chase Gordon (Tulsa) 6-2, 6-4. He would then fall in his next match to Ben Stride of Drake (6-3, 6-4).
Felix Corwin added to the Gophers win total with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Southern Illinois's Michal Kianicka then won his next match by forfeit.
