Nov. 2, 2016
The University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams will host the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks this Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.
Last year, the Gophers headed to North Dakota in order to face UND, where each Minnesota team topped its respective competition. The women topped UND by a score of 195-103, while the men topped the opponent by a score of 193-103.
LAST SEASON'S MEET AGAINST UND
During last year's competition, current senior Katelyn Holmquist, who won three individual events, led the Gophers. Mariam Khamis, Kaia Grobe and Abigail Raatz also had stellar performances, each picking up two first place finishes. On the men's side, current senior Nick Orf won two events.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gophers hosted Iowa last weekend and posted a sweep against the Big Ten rival. The men's team topped the Hawkeyes by a score of 185.5 to 113.5 Friday night, while the women beat them by a score of 186-114 on Saturday morning.
The men's team won 14 of 16 events, with Conner McHugh, Matt Barnard, Bowe Becker and Daryl Turner winning two individual races each.
The women's team won 11 of 16 events, opening and closing the meet with relay wins. Sarah Bacon won both diving events, while Danielle and Chantal Nack each picked up two individual wins in their respective events.
THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP
Head coach Kelly Kremer is looking forward to the meet against North Dakota, as he thinks multiple new opportunities will arise for the team.
"With the North Dakota meet we're going to give a chance to some of our student athletes who haven't necessarily had an opportunity to be in the forefront of the scoring heats," Kremer said.
"For the other student-athletes on our team, a chance to swim some of their third events or events that might not be their primary event, but an event that will still be really important to us.
"It's a little bit different of a meet, but we're motivated to see how much we can get out of it."
