Gophers Open Season at SDSU

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- Four members of the University of Minnesota men's track & field program will be in action this weekend, traveling to the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi in Brookings, S.D. The meet begins on Friday, Dec. 2 and concludes on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Competing for the Maroon & Gold this weekend will be Luca Wieland, Bryan Bjerk, Mac Riedy and Jonathan Tharaldsen.
Gophers Sign Eight to NLIs
The University of Minnesota men's track & field and cross country program has announced the signing of eight Gophers prospects to National Letters of Intent.
Joining the Maroon & Gold are Anthony Fleischfresser (Blaine, Minn.), Grant Fuller (Edina, Minn.), Mike Herauf (Dickinson, N.D.), Dawson LaRance (Billings, Mont.), Hunter Lucas (Fargo, N.D.), Jordan Macintosh (Thunder Bay, Ontario), Patrick Roos (Edina, Minn.) and Kaleb Siekmeier (Mahtomedi, Minn.).
2016 Cross Country Rewind
Three Gophers earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors at the 2016 Big Ten Cross Country Championships as Charlie Lawrence (ninth), Matt Welch (13th) and Connor Olson (14th) led the Gophers to a fourth-place finish at the meet. Meanwhile, Obsa Ali (14th) and Lawrence (18th) repeated as NCAA All-Region honorees for the Maroon & Gold.
Blankenship, Mead Shine at Olympics
Gopher alums Ben Blankenship and Hassan Mead didn't disappoint in their Olympic debuts earlier this year in Rio de Janeiro. Blankenship finished eighth in the 1,500 meters (3:51.09) while Mead placed 11th in the 5,000 meters (13:09.81). Both competitors were All-Americans and Big Ten champions for the Gophers and Minnesota Director of Men's Track & Field and Cross Country Steve Plasencia.
