TEMPE, Ariz. (GopherSports.com) - Defending Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week Sean Donnelly opened the weekend with his third-straight hammer throw victory for the University of Minnesota men's track & field program on Friday at the Sun Angel Classic.

The mark stands second all-time in program history (and second in the NCAA this year) only to Donnelly's own school record of 74.35 meters (243-11 ft.) also set at Arizona State earlier this season at the Baldy Castillo Invitational - a mark that stands first in the nation, first in the NCAA and ninth in the world this year.
Mac Riedy added a seventh-place finish at 55.15 meters (180-11 ft.) while Viktor Stelter came in eighth at 54.89 meters (180-01 ft.).
Meanwhile at the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., Luca Wieland came in second in the open shot put competition at 14.16 meters (46-05.50 ft.), fifth in the javelin throw at 54.12 meters (177-07 ft.) and 17th in the open discus competition at 43.25 meters (141-11 ft.).
