The University of Minnesota men's tennis team was named a 2016 Intercollegiate Association (ITA) All-Academic team. Four student-athletes were awarded an ITA Scholar-Athlete award.

"I'm very proud of these student athletes' effort in the classroom as well as on the court." head coach Geoff Young said, "It's not easy to attain such good results as a student when they put in as much time as they do training in their sport. They deserve to feel good about this accomplishment."

Josip Krstanovic, Jeremy Lynn, Matic Spec and Jesse Sprinkel were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA or Junior/Community College eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).

This is the second time that Lynn and Spec have been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and the first time for the other two. Lynn and Spec were also named to the Academic All-Big Ten team for their academic excellence. It is the sixth straight year that the Gophers have been named an ITA All-Academic team.
