Tickets on Sale for Saturday's Minnesota-Ohio State Meet

The Golden Gophers edged out Michigan State 193.875 to 193.000 on Friday night at the Jenison Field House. Minnesota moves to 4-1 on the season, and 2-0 in Big Ten Conference competition.

"We had another tough start on bars this week, but finished strong on the next three rotations," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "We have a lot of new routines, and we just need our athletes to believe in themselves and embrace their opportunities."

As a team, the Gophers scored a 47.450 on uneven bars, 48.750 on vault, 48.875 on floor and 48.800 on beam.

Minnesota opened the meet on uneven bars. Senior Bailie Holst led the team with a 9.850 to be named co-event champion with Spartan Hailee Westney. Freshman Ivy Lu recorded a personal best 9.800 to earn third. Ciara Gardner rounded out the team's top-three scorers with a 9.675, which finished sixth.

Abby DeMuse opened her junior campaign after missing the first two meets due to injury. DeMuse and Bailey Abernathy each posted a 9.775 to tie for first place along with Michigan State's Nicola Deans. Rookie Paige Williams recorded a 9.750 for fourth.

On floor, Holst finished was named event champion with Michigan State's Kira Frederick and Deans with a 9.825. Abernathy notched a 9.800 for fourth place, Williams followed for fifth with a 9.775.

DeMuse won the beam title with a 9.825, a score that matched her personal record. Seniors Holst and Kaitlin Rahon each posted a 9.775 to tie for third place, along with Spartans Westney and Deans.

"It was great to have [DeMuse] back tonight," Hansen added. "We look forward to adding her to the floor lineup very soon."

Holst matched her personal record in the all-around competition with a 39.175 to take home first place.

Minnesota returns to the Sports Pavilion next Saturday, Jan. 28 for a conference meet against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The first rotation will begin at 4:00 p.m. and tickets are available at mygophersports.com.
