Gophers Win 21 Events in Hawai'i

The Golden Gophers won and posted 21 event wins (11 by the men and 10 by the women) in a meet against Hawai'i and Drury. The meet was part of Minnesota's annual winter training trip to Hawai'i.
WOMEN - W, 203-94 at Hawai'i and W, 205-53 vs. Drury
Danielle Nack won both butterfly events. In the 100, Nack's 54.08 beat Kaia Grobe's 57.20. In the 200, her 1:59.41 finished ahead of Rina Krupsky (2:07.20) and Grobe (2:07.85).
Tevyn Waddell claimed titles in both backstroke races. She finished the 100 back in 54.88. Zoe Avestruz was third in 57.09. Waddell won the 200 in 1:59.48, ahead of Chantal Nack in 2:01.30.
Erin Emery and Isabel Whited turned in a 1-2 finish in the 500 freestyle. Emery won in 4:58.99 with Whited behind her in 5:02.70. Breanne Siwicki (16:57.13) won the 1,650 free a few seconds ahead of Erin Emery (16:59.73).
Kierra Smith won the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.42. Lindsey Horejsi was third in 2:15.76. Horejsi won the 100 breast in 1:02.09, with Smith third in 1:02.44.
Avestruz, Danielle Nack, Chantal Nack and Grobe won the 400 free relay in 3:27.00. Waddell, Horejsi, Danielle Nack and Avestruz took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:41.71.
Avestruz was second in the 100 free in 50.96. Chantal Nack (1:52.04) and Maggie Werba (1:54.51) were second and third in the 200 free. Brooke Zeiger came in second in the 200 IM in 2:03.51.
MEN - W, 215-82 at Hawai'i and W, 227-39 vs. Drury
Bowe Becker won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. In the 50 he won in 20.05 ahead of David Goll (21.20). His 44.36 in the 100 beat teammates Paul Fair (45.08) and Noah Busch (45.73).
Daryl Turner also won a pair of individual races. He and Tuomas Pokkinen were the top two finishers in the 100 butterfly. Turner won in 47.79 with Pokkinen finishing in 49.29. Pokkinen placed second in the 200 fly in 1:50.62. Turner's other win was in the 100 back, touching in 47.79. Busch (50.73) was third.
Fair won the 200 free with a time of 1:38.54. Nick Saulnier took third in 1:40.93.
Eric Sande (55.57), Conner McHugh (56.12) and John Bushman (56.38) swept the top three places in the 100 breaststroke. Bushman won the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.81. Brenner Hohenstein took third in 2:03.58.
Logan Redondo and Nick Plachinski went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle. Redondo out-touched his teammate in 4:32.12, winning by .05 seconds. Michael Messner (15:30.08) won the 1,650 free ahead of Redondo (15:43.66).
Becker, Fair, Busch and Turner won the 400 free relay in 2:59.81. Turner, McHugh, Fair and Becker were first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.43.
Brian Poon finished second in the 200 individual medley in 1:50.79. Jonathon Thielen was third in the 200 back in 1:52.87.
