MINNEAPOLIS - In round two and three of singles and round two of doubles play, Gopher Men's Tennis collected 14 victories and saw eight different athletes advance to day three at Baseline Tennis Center.
The most exciting match-up of the day saw sophomore Stefan Milicevic upset the second-seeded Joe Salazar of Arkansas in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-4, and 7-6 (4). Earlier in the day, Milicevic defeated Daniel Izadifar of the University of Missouri-Kansas City for his first official victory of the tournament, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 after receiving a walkover in round one. He and freshman Kaleb Dobbs remained on the winning path in doubles play as they knocked off the duo of Castellano and Pozo from UMKC, 8-6.
Seniors Matic Spec and Felix Corwin made their tournament debuts, advancing on to day three in both singles and doubles. Spec defeated Jake Jacoby of Iowa 6-1, 6-0 and Josh Goodger of Tulsa, 6-4, 6-4. Corwin knocked off Branch Terrell of Arkansas, 7-5, 6-4, and Ben Clark of Drake, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1. The pair defeated Parry and Yanaba of St. Louis University 8-2 in their lone doubles outing of the game.
Juniors Josip Krstanovic and Marino Alpeza will join the trio in the round-of-32 singles while rookie Jackson Allen and junior Jesse Sprinkel picked up a victory in doubles play to advance to day three.
