Milicevic in Regional Title Match; Gophers win Doubles

MINNEAPOLIS - Seniors Matic Spec and Felix Corwin will reign as the doubles champions of the Central Region while sophomore Stefan Milicevic competes for a singles title of his own as the ITA Regional Championship continues Monday at Baseline Tennis Center.
Milicevic made quick work of his two opponents on Sunday, defeating Airam Castellano of the University of Missouri Kansas City, 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals before handling Ferran Calvo of Oklahoma in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-4. He will meet Ham Lake, Minnesota native Toby Boyer of Big Ten rival Nebraska in Monday's final, beginning at 10 a.m. in Minneapolis.
Spec and Corwin rolled in their semifinal earlier Sunday, knocking off Adrian Oetzbach and Jochan Bertsch of Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-4 before needing a tiebreaker to claim the doubles title. The duo knocked off Artur Dubinski and Lefty Theodorou of Oklahoma State 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) to claim the title in front of an excited crowd of Gopher Men's Tennis fans and teammates.
In the consolation, junior Josip Krstanovic picked up a strong victory over Jake Van Emburgh of Oklahoma, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Rookie Jackson Allen defeated Alex Pozo of UMKC after the tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6 (10-8).
