Trotter, Tollefson Pick Up Titles on Opening Day

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program opened the indoor campaign on Friday as Chris Trotter and Jon Tollefson picked up individual titles for the Maroon & Gold on the first day of the SDSU Holiday Open.
Trotter and Tollefson earned back-to-back victories for Minnesota at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex with Trotter claiming the 600-meter title and Tollefson following up with a win in the 60-meter hurdles.
Minnesota claimed the top-two finishers in both events. Trotter paced the 600 meters at 1:19.74 with Matt Rosen coming in second at 1:20.84. Tollefson clocked an 8.18 in the 60-meter hurdle finals for the win while Eric Walker was the runner-up at 8.19.
Josh Tracy added a second-place finish in the 400-meter finals with a time of 49.53 and helped Minnesota's 4x400 meter relay team to a seventh-place finish at 3:23.36 along with Trotter, Rosen and Clayton Johnson.
Meanwhile, a trio of Minnesota student-athletes are in the running for the heptathlon title in Brookings as newcomer Teddy Frid paces the event through four events (60 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump) with a Day 1 total of 2,840 points. Jacob Buller is currently in third with 2,816 points while John Uchytil sits in seventh at 2,563 points. Frid led the field in the high jump competition at 1.98 meters (6-06 ft.) while Buller was the top finisher in the long jump at 6.76 meters (22-02.25 ft.). The remaining three events (60-meter hurdles, pole vault, 1,000 meters) will be held on Saturday.
Competing as unattached individuals, Zach Nelson finished fifth in the 60-meter dash finals at 6.94, and Anthony Fleischfresser finished seventh in the high jump at 1.95 meters (6-04.75 ft.).
