BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program closed out its first competition of the season on Saturday with a trio of Gophers competing in the heptathlon at the SDSU Holiday Open, held over the last two days at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The Maroon & Gold posted three of the top-four heptathlon finishes over the two-day meet with newcomer Teddy Frid leading the Gophers with a runner-up finish at 5,280 points. Jacob Buller came in third at 4,965 points, and John Uchytil finished fourth with 4,860 points.
Frid paced the field through four events on Friday including a meet-best performance in the high jump. He led the competition in two out of three events on Saturday - the 60-meter hurdle (8.29) and the 1,000 meters (2:42.84). Uchytil, meanwhile, jumped from seventh at the break to fourth on Saturday by leading the field in the pole vault (4.95 meters, 16-02.75 ft.).
The Gophers earned two individual titles on Friday at the SDSU Holiday Open with Chris Trotter claiming the 600-meter crown at 1:19.74 and Jon Tollefson winning the 60-meter hurdles at 8.18.
Minnesota returns to action in 2018, hosting the Minnesota Open on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
